Timber structure is one of the most important construction forms. The old constructions existed in China have great cultural value and historical significance, and they're extremely valuable asset. Timber structures have also been widely used in residential of North America, Canada, Japan, and also in factory, library, gymnasium and other large buildings. Therefore, the research on reinforcement of timber structures has significant value.The reinforcement of timber structures with CFRP materials is a new method, with its easy-to-construction, free of influence on its weight and appearance and some other advantages, so it is worthy of being promoted. Now the principles and theories on the reinforcement of timber structures with CFRP materials are far from enough, and it is not conductive to the promotion and application of this method.It summarizes the current research results, and makes deeper research on the basis of studies in this dissertation. There are nine timber beams in this experiment. One is plain timber beam which is used as reference beam, and the other eight are timber beams reinforced with CFRP materials. The beams are divided into three groups, namely group W indicating plain timber beam, namely group C indicating timber beams reinforced with CFRP materials and namely group Y indicating timber beams reinforced with pre-stressed CFRP materials. The influences on the effects of different ways of sticking and thickness of CFRP materials are mainly studied. The effects of reinforcement with CFRP materials are obvious by analyzing the relationships between load, strain and deflection. The increase in carrying capacity, stiffness and ductility in each reinforcement method are of great differences based on the experiment results. After all, the capacities of timber beams have been greatly improved.The simplified theory is based on the existing analysis theories and combined with the experiment phenomenon, and the calculatd carrying capacities nearly agree with the experiment results. The prestress and strain in the pre-stress method have also been achieved.Finally, some issues in reinforcement experiments of CFRP materials are summed up, and the directions of further research are pointed out.
