Long-span PC continuous rigid frame bridges with high piers are widely adopted for its many merits. However, the research on their seismic performance is deficient and the related analysis specification is not established. So it is significant in engineering to investigate seismic performance of long-span PC continuous rigid frame bridges including their elastic-plastic response and potensional collapse pattern.In this paper, based on a long-span PC continuous rigid frame bridge with high piers in the west, dynamic performance and elastic-plastic seismic response analysis were carried out using a FEM program ANSYS. The longitudinal and transverse section characteristics of piers under its gravity were studied and a relevant program was planned by Matlab. A model of plastic hinge element was put forward and verified with the existing results which testified the feasibility of the model. A method of elastic-plastic seismic response analysis was presented. The seismic response were conducted under the following earthquake load cases respectively, the longitudinal, the longitudinal with its 1/2 times in the vertical direction, the longitudinal with its 1/3 times in the vertical direction, the longitudinal with its 2/3 times in the vertical direction, the transverse. The forming, development, damage of the plastic hinge under various cases were studied and the appearance location, sequence, number, and the damage location were analyzed. The maximum earthquake which the structure can afford under longitudinal cases and transverse cases was studied and accordingly the evaluation of safety was finished. Finally, the influence of vertical earthquake wave on the seismic response of structure was studied.The results of study in this paper can give reference to the earthquake resistant of the same kind of bridge.
