As rapid rising of oil price and the concept of great importance to environmental protection, Hybrid-Electric Vehicles (HEV) techniques became more and more significant now. Because of the application on HEV cars, there are some specific requirement for the HEV converter, like high power density and wide output voltage. This article designs a HEV converter with high power density and high efficiency to meet the requirement on HEV cars. The design is divided to four parts. The first part is topology selection. By connecting the classic bi-direction DC-DC topology together, there are two new topologies for choosing. By comparison of the efficiency and the weight of two topologies, the second topology is selected. The second part is discussing about the control method. Four kinds of control methods are contrasted. The control method with highest efficiency is selected for further design. The third part is control loop design and simulation. For different control goals, different control loops are designed differently. And the simulations are made to verify the control loops, based on the software PSPICE. The fours part is high density design, including the design of water-cooling heat sink and the spatial arrangement of every part. Finally, the experiment result is given. It shows that the converter has high efficiency and high power density. The converter is suitable for HEV application.
