China is the big country in the world with abundant coal resource. The coal resource accounts for 70 percent of primary energy consumption. Flameless combustion is a high and new technology in combustion area which is developed rapidly since 1990. The main features of flameless combustion are due to the absence of a flame front and to the onset of a reaction volume that is basically uniform. Compare to the conventional combustion process, flameless combustion has the significant advantage of saving energy, reducing the creating of NOx and CO2, decreasing the combustion noise and lowing the equipment size. But research on the flameless combustion of the pulverized coal is very limited in the combustion technology of the world.Flameless combustion is applied in pulverized coal combustion in this paper. A pulverized coal flameless combustion reactor is designed in this work. Gas supply system, pressure measurement system, pulverized coal feeding equipment and ignition device are established. Each subsystem is commissioned and corollary platform is set up. On the pulverized coal flameless combustion experimental platform, the pulverized coal feeding experiment, ignition characteristic experiment and cold state experiment are conducted. Based on these experiments, study on pulverized coal combustion in different work condition is carried to research the flame characteristics, temperature distribution in the reactor and pollutants emission.The fluent 6.0 software is used for modeling the coal combustion process of three-dimension furnace. The flow, the combustion and heat transfer model are analyzed and selected. The flow status, the temperature level and gas radiate characteristics are studied. Some predicted results are compared to measured data.
