With the modern urban traffic congestion, the traditional signal control can not control traffic well. The development of computer and communication technology provided conditions to the traffic control system. Video surveillance system has undergone an evolution process from analog to digital, from general-purpose PC control to embedded systems control, from simple compilation commands control to the operating system control. After which, it has been to the embedded, operating system and network stage of development. Compare with traditional video surveillance system, the video transmission system based on ARM have obvious advantages in real-time, processing speed, functionality, price, scalability and etc. The ARM-based embedded technology in our country is rapidly growing, in which the bottom development often becomes a bottleneck of the embedded system development. Therefore, the research of ARM-based embedded video transmission system platform has a universally practical value.The main research of the thesis is the hardware and software platform of the embedded ARM-based video transmission system. In the course of the research, software platform accounted for the majority of the whole process. Operating system porting and driver development are the core of platform layer software development. Therefore, the paper firstly detailed the development and status quo of the video transport systems, embedded systems and Linux as an embedded operating system. On which basis design and build a video transmission system platform based on ARM and embedded Linux as an operating system. Then, the embedded hardware development platform whose core is ARM9 chip S3C2410 is detailed. In addition to S3C2410, CS8900A cost-effective network chip, SDRAM, FLASH, and act composed the full-featured hardware system platform. Subsequently, the paper deeply studied technologies of Linux system porting and device driver. Deeply analyzed the Linux system, kernel structure and system porting technology, and came to the basic steps of Linux system porting. Take the USB device as an example, design and implementation of driver program is completed on the basis of driver program design theory. Finally, in accordance with the characteristics of Linux system transplantation, the leading process, Linux kernel, drivers, file system ported to the target hardware platform, step by step. The research of ARM-based video transmission system platform is completed. The main features are: More attention is paid on Linux system transplantation technology and device driver technology. Deeply studied the technologies and theories involved in system porting, including architecture of Linux system, kernel, porting and driver. On this basis, the USB device driver development has been completed. The realization of porting the system including boot, Linux kernel, driver program and file system is done. The expected purpose of learning and research is achieved. A solid function for further research has been laid as well.
