As energy consumption grows rapidly and energy saving is one of major issues concerned worldwide, many countries have provided significant support to save energy and improve its usage. Especially in China, the State Council particularly promulgated the 'Energy-saving Power Generation Dispatch Approach' with the requirements that renewable energy power dispatching must be a priority and coal-fired generators must be selected to operate according to their ranking of efficiency and emission level. Although the renewable energy power generations have so many advantages in environmental protection, they possess properties of stochastic and intermittent. Wind power, the fastest developing among all the renewable power generation technologies, has become a hot issue. Previous studies on the power systems with wind farms embedded are mainly about the impact of operation security and stability caused by wind power penetration. However, there is too little research on the energy-saving generation dispatch in power systems with wind farms embedded. Furthermore, the energy-saving generation dispatch is strongly advocated by the government as an important task. Therefore, this research work is of great significance.Wind power forecast is the basis of this research work, its accuracy will have a direct impact on the energy-saving generation dispatch. Therefore, this paper summaries and compares different methods by which the output of wind farms are predicted in order to maximize the elimination of effects caused by the nature properties of wind stochastic and intermittent.As for the power system dispatch, the traditional optimization problem is analyzed by using static or dynamic methods. Because dynamic method considers the coupling of different time sections, the calculation is more complex than the static one, but the result is much more practical. Therefore, taking into account the stochastic changes of the wind speed as time goes by, dynamic analysis method is used in this paper to build a dynamic model of energy-saving generation dispatch with wind farms embedded. The dynamic model is expected to surmount the dispatch difficulties caused by the inaccurate prediction of wind farm output.Furthermore, in order to adapt to the implementation of energy-saving generation dispatch under the new developing circumstance, this paper proposes an improved multi-objective optimization dispatch algorithm, taking into account the economic costs, environmental emission and network losses as multi-objectives. Simulation results prove that the improved algorithm is effective to meet the requirements of energy-saving generation dispatch under the new developing circumstance.Finally, in order to make the algorithm practical, this paper preliminarily researches and develops a software module for energy-saving generation dispatch based on the Intelligent Dispatch Automation System Platform (IDA-800 for short). Users are friendly allowed to use this software to implement the energy-saving generation dispatch.
