Brushless DC motor (BLDCM) is a new type of motor that gets much popularity in the past few years. It combines the characteristics of AC motor and DC motor. Therefore, it has excellent timing capability, high efficiency, simple configuration, reliable operation, and can be controlled and maintained easily. BLDCM has been widely using in various fields. However, torque ripple problem due to the special structure and control method for BLDCM would seriously hamper further improvement of its performance in position and speed control, which make it unable to satisfy the requirements of some high-precision fields. It is very significant to research such a control system with powerful regulation capability to reduce the torque ripple of BLDCM.Auto-disturbance-rejecting controller is a non-linear controller which is independent of system model. ADRC may instantly convert the indefinite non-linear system into integrator series structure system to realize feedback linearization of dynamic system. It has many features such as low overshoot, fast convergence, high accuracy, ability of anti-jamming etc.To solve those problems associated with conventional PID control for brushless dc motor (BLDCM), such as high current and torque ripple, a new current controller based on fuzzy adaptive active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) are proposed in this paper. The mathematical model of the motor and the principle of ADRC are analyzed. Fuzzy reasoning method is used for ADRC parameters online self-tuning. The current ripple is treated as system disturbance. The current waveform is improved and the torque ripple is suppressed by the proposed scheme. Experimental results verified that the proposed control scheme significantly reduces current and torque ripple and it is a novel modified control method for BLDCM.
