This article begins with basic concepts, and brings in safety integrity level as a concept, which can guarantee that the reliability and safety of a system may have an exact and weighable index. It aims at boiler water level protection system which is a concrete DCS in Tong Liao power plant and does analysis, according to the failure rate dates of every equipment, it calculates failure rates of the whole DCS and finds that the safety integrity level of DCS can only reach 1. Considering that the safety integrity level of former water level protection system is low, it suggests increasing redundant equipments to enhance the safety integrity level of the system. After increasing redundancies, calculating again, finding that safety integrity level of the system can reach 4, meeting the demand that boiler water level protection system must be as safe and reliable as possible in《Guidelines in boiler level measuring system configuration,installation and use issued by state electric power company》...
