The LIDAR is integrated with laser ranging technology,computertechnology, inertia measure unit and DGPS technology, it is a newtechnology which can quickly obtain highly accurate 3D terrain surfaceinformation, and its active scanning pattern enables it to work all-daytime without being affected by weather, so it has broad prospects andhuge applications in water resources planning, topographic surveying,three-dimensional city, environmental monitoring and so on.This paper starts with the significance of Light Detection andRanging(LIDAR) technology in water conservancy, and summarizesapplication advantages and recent advance of LIDAR, then performsdigital elevation model, watershed vegetation parameter and buildingsextraction from 3D reservoir point cloud data. Considering hydraulicproject is magnificent but the structure of profile is simple, it presents anew hydraulic buildings reconstructing method from profile informationextraction. It is implemented through image process algorithms such asgray processing, mathematic morphology , thinning and corner detectionunder Interactive Data Language(IDL) platform. Electronic sand table isconstructed using digital elevation model and aerial orthoimages. Thepaper indicates that electronic sand table will be applicable in hydraulicengineering projects, and gives some application examples such as project construction and management, river regulation and irrigationsystem design.
