The utilization of water and energy has played an important role in process industries. Because of the lack of effective using for the water and energy, the research of energy integration and mass integration has been given more attention. But few research is concerned for the energy integration in the water networks. And most research findings are only suitable to single-contaminant system. Against this backdrop, this paper carries on an investigation into the design of multi-contaminant water networks of energy integration expecting to afford some theoretic direction of economizing on water and energy of the process industries. The researches have been done as follows:The design of multi-contaminant water networks of energy integration also apply for a two-step optimal method. During the practical problems, take the fresh water consumption as objective function. Then reach a result by applying for mathematical programming theory. And base on the water network structure. Carry out the optimization of the heat exchanger. The two-step optimal method does not reach the simultaneous minimization of water and energy in reality. This paper research the design of multi-contaminant water networks of energy integration. Take the quantity of fresh water consumption and the annual cost of heat exchanger networks as objective function. And solve it by improved Particle Swarm Optimization. The case of the oil refinery is showed for verifying the propose model. And discuss the optimal result resolved by the two method.
