The slopes failure and landslides are common disasters in the engineering constructions. There are many factors lead to slopes failure, among which water is the most significant one. Most side slopes under field conditions are unsaturated, rainfall and the shifting ground water and many other factors can change the water content of unsaturated slopes, therefore decrease the shear strength of slopes. How to analyze and forecast slope stability correctly is very mea-ningful to the safety of constructions and human property.Start with the in-house test, then apply the experimental data to the analysis of slope sta-bility, the primary works in this paper are presented as follows:1. Getting the samples of the silty clay, making many test on the soil-water characteristic curve. The experiment obtained drying and wetting path of the SWCC. By fitting the results by function, a simple and practical formula simulation was found.2. Performing direct shear test on silty clay, getting shear strength parameters under dif-ferent matrix suction, and analyzing the effect of matrix suction on shear strength parameters. Fitting the results by function, and finding the shear strength formule.3. Thinking about the hysteresis phenomenon of SWCC, performing direct shear test under the wetting conditions. Comparing the experimental data with the test under the drying conditions, and analyzing the effect of the change path of water on the shear strength.4. Combine SWCC with strength tests, using formule derived in this paper, making simulation of slope stability. Comparative analyzing the safety factors of slopes, trying to find a numerical modeling that closest to the actual situation.
