With the rapid development of the power electronics, the high frequency of power electronics has bring EMI problem, which lead to serious electromagnetic pollution. The existed research results show that the high-order harmonic currents generated by the four-quadrant converter can result in serious EMI problem. A novel chaotic pulse width modulation (PWM) control is first proposed and implemented into an four quadrant converter,Therefore, the harmonic components in the single phase four-quadrant SPWM converter are introduced and analyzed. And then, the chaotic SPWM control is firstly employed into a single phase four-quadrant converter to reduce EMI. Then the application method of chaotic and two chaotic maps have been analyzed in detail. Moreover, Chaos-based sinusoidal PWM (SPWM) and chaos-based space vector PWM (SVPWM) are brought forward in three phase four-quadrant converter.In this paper, the chaotic control models of single phase four-quadrant AC-DC converter and three phase four-quadrant AC-DC converter have been established by Matlab/Simulink. The EMI results obtained by traditional PWM control, i.e. PWM control with periodic carrier, chaotic PWM control and RPWM control are given; the comparison shows the validity and advantage of the novel chaotic PWM control. The effect of the frequency variation was analyzed.Finally, the design of experimental system including hardware and software is described in detail based on the theory and simulations. And laboratory prototype of single phase inverter and single phase four-quadrant converter has been established on the 3.7KVA experimental platform to verify the discussions and analyses of the chaotic control. The experimental results verify the correctness of the proposed control strategy., it provides a new way to satisfy the corresponding electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards.
