As the temperature stress has great influence on bridge structure, in recent decades, a lot of work has done by researching the temperature field and temperature stress on bridge structure all over the world. A series field tests and theoretical studies has carried out, which means the study on the temperature field and temperature stress has been made fruitful research and accumulated a lot of valuable experience, making computing theory better than previous. For long-span steel bridge, as fast thermal conductivity of steel, more sensitive to temperature changes, temperature changes will be more significant. Thesis is based on the engineering background of Chongqing Chaotianmen Bridge, analysing the sunshine temperature and its effects on long-span steel bridge.Firstly, thesis introduces the theory of heat conduction, then solving how does the bridge bar distribute at the temperature field in different time by using Transient Thermal Analysis of ANSYS. Combining the results from ANSYS and the provision on the calculation of temperature all over the world, this paper proposed the temperature gradient mode of orthotropic deck panels along the vertical temperature gradient. This temperature gradient mode provides the calculation basis about how to calculate the temperature effects for this type of the bridge.According to the temperature field results of different bar, then equivalent the non-linear temperature gradient to linear temperature gradient. Using the large-scale finite element software MIDAS/civil to establish the full bridge model, selecting the Max-Moment of temperature gradient, calculating the local temperature effect and the overall temperature effect seperately. According to the results, the deficiencies in structural design have been proposed, and the results can be used as suggestion for designing the similar bridge in future.
