The main parts of a centrifugal fan consist of current collector, volute and impeller; the shape and structure of these parts have the direct influence on the fluid in their channels, thus seriously affecting the overall performance of the fan. With the developments of computer and CAD, three-dimensional viscous computational fluid dynamics software are used more and more in fluid mechanical testing and design process. The virtual design, simulation and analysis by CFD software occupy an important position in the design of a centrifugal fan, and it has become the main method of the centrifugal fan design process. The theoretical analysis and numerical study is carried out in this paper. First, theoretical method was used for the parametric design, and then Pro/E was used for geometric modeling, as well as FLUENT was utilized for numerical calculation. All the research results are listed as follows:(1) By analysis of numerical results obtained, the outlet of vortex impeller had more serious impact on the flow patterns, and their structure should be improved.(2) Quadratic interpolation for the objectives of efficiency impeller blade angle and blade number has been optimized, and optimal blade angle varied from 60 to 58 degrees, slightly increasing the efficiency of 1.1628%.(3) Re-establishing models using optimized results, the numerical calculation was performed again. The result of numerical calculation was in accordance with optimized conclusions, showing that the research methods were feasible, and it was of value to similar centrifugal fan design.
