Due to load and environmental factors influence,the structure may occur damage during the using period. Damage continuously accumulate and development along with the increment of the structure usage time, it will result in reducing structural reliability, and destroy the whole structure under the extreme circumstance. Therefore, it significance to carry structural health monitoring for the civil engineering structure, in order to discover damage as early as possible and take appropriate preventive measures.This article combines the domestic and abroad research status of structure damage detection to carry on a in-depth and system research the damage of a space steel frame structure. The main work includes several aspects as follows:1. Firstly, detailed discussion and analysis variety methods of structural damage detection, comparing the advantages and disadvantages and applications of each method, proposed the damage identification method of based on sensitivity is more suitable for damage detection of space steel structure.2. Established the finite element model of a three-space steel frame before and after damage, obtained modal data before and after damage, using the first three modal parameters to identification the before and after structural damage.3. Three indicators of the Steel Structure damage detection which is based on sensitivity is given. Using the three damage index to distinguish the damage location on the structure respectively. The specific steps:first, use the damage index preliminary judging the damage location, if the damage index greater than l,the member maybe the damage bar. Then base on the damage location criteria, use the damage location factor to accurately locate the position of structural damage.4. Use of damage assessment factor to assess the damage extent of structural.5. Compared the recognition results of three damage index for the damage location and damage degree of space structure. The improved damage index has better effect and precision for damage location and damage assessment is presented, it apply to damage detection of space structures.
