As one of the largest shipping country in the world, China has a wide territory and abundant water resources with long coastline and numerous harbors,rivers, lakes and reservoirs scatter all over the country like stars in the sky, it also provides broader space for shipping industry's development. However, with the development of shipping business, currently a huge amount of sediment deposited there has caused severe problems and need to be dredged. Dredging is one of the effective engineering measures to control floods and improve navigation, irrigation conditions and environment. Therefore, many kinds of dredging ships come into being. Because of its advantages, Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) received swift and violent development.Because TSHD has a broad applicability and good economy. it has been put into use all over the world in the widespread adoption of a larger dredging project. But the structure of TSHD and their dredging process are all complicated.Therefore, the trailing suction dredger operator operations simulation training, assumed greater importance in. This article is exactly based on dredging operations simulator research and development in Wuhan University of Technology, making some advance preparations and researches.In this paper, I have taken the "long whale 2"-type trailing suction hopper dredger for the mother ship. using the MATLAB/SIMULINK software focused on trailing suction dredger dredging operations have done a lot of modeling and simulation work. Such as on the diesel engine, mud pump piping system, swell compensator and so on. Designed several mud concentrations and simple mud terrain conditions, based on the simulation models did some preliminary simulation work, did some preliminary simulation work about mud pump(s) delivery of water, did some preliminary simulation work about mud pump(s) delivery different mud concentrations, about simulations comparison of different mud concentrations, did some preliminary simulation work about output simulation comparison between uniform flow of slurry transportation and non-uniform flow. Established mathematical models and simulation models of swell compensator, and did some simulation experiments, through the working principle of swell compensators and simulation experiments, I can know that swell compensator can compensate effect of vertical impact and improve the efficiency of dredging operations. Made some simulations under different depth.Established some mathematical models of wind wave and current, and provided simulation programs of wind wave and current which can affect the output of THSD, also did some simulation work about how the wind wave and current affect the output of THSD on transverse direction, pointed out which we need to pay attention to and which we need to study in-depth for researching simulator.At last of this paper provided a preliminary design and outline of researching and developing marine simulator of TSHD about simulator hardware and software. This should lay a good foundation for my school's research and development of marine simulator of TSHD.
