Stator winding inter-turn short circuit is a destructive and common fault in the internal of generator. Because their protection and condition monitoring is not perfect, so further analysis and fault characteristics are required from the theory. Considering the prevailing eccentricity state of the practical operated generator, the mechanical and electrical cross-coupling analysis is carried on the vibration characteristic of generator which is caused by stator winding inter-turn short circuit fault. Using the energy method and the flux density, the frequency characteristic of imbalance magnetic pull acting on rotor and that of pulsating magnetic pull acting on stator core, and that of electro-magnetic torque are calculated. Finally the characteristics of stator and rotor radial vibration after the fault of generator are obtained. Using practically acquired SDF-9 and MJF-30-6 generator vibration data in stator winding inter-turn short circuit fault, the results of verification show that the analysis is correct.
