Large space roof structures are generally light, flexible, low damping and have lower natural frequency, they are prone to wind and the wind load is one of the most important loads to control the structural design. Specially, if building envelope such as roofs, doors and windows have been broken by strong wind, the wind-induced internal pressure of structures will be larger quickly. With exter-inter wind pressure combined action, some parts of buildings with openings could produce damage more likely. Therefore, it is a important issue to investigate the wind effect for large space roof structure with openings. And it is of great significance in wind resistance design. At present, theoretical analysis, field measurement, wind tunnel test and numerical simulation are the four major methods to study the distribution of the wind pressure on the buildings. As the most important method, there are many shortcomings for wind tunnel test. With the development of Computational Fluid Dynamics and the computer science, numerical simulation becomes the hot spot in the research of wind engineering. This paper reviews analytical and experimental investigations on the internal pressure properties and its effects on roof structures in the past years firstly, moreover, the principal theories and basic characters of CFD are expatiated. The research work of this paper is mainly focused on the following aspects:The mean wind pressures of a large span space structure are computed based on CFX soft platform with shear stress transport. According the numerical simulation, the influence of wind-induced internal pressure is studied. Comparisons between the result from the present computation and the result from the related items in the《load code for the design of building》is then made and the comparisons show that the method provided in the《load code for the design of building》is not complete. According the result from the numerical simulation, some regular patters about wind-induced continuous damage of building envelope are put forward.Studies in the fluctuating wind loads characteristics of the large space roof structure play an important role in investigating the wind effect for large space roof structure. In this paper fluctuating wind loads of a large span space structure are computed based on CFX soft platform with LES. In order to investigate the distribution characteristics of fluctuating wind loads, comparisons between the results from the present computation and the wind tunnel test of the building model are performed. Otherwise, the characteristics of fluctuating internal pressure and the correlativity of exter-inter wind pressure are studied by numerical simulation when the building model with openings.Numerical simulation is applied on a project——National Tennis Centre New Hall. A wind tunnel test of mean wind loads on the roof of National Tennis Centre New Hall is introduced firstly. Meanwhile, the wind load distribution is numerically simulated using the SST k-co turbulent model based on the CFX. A comparison between the wind pressure from the test and the simulation is then made and the result shows the feasibility and the superiority of numerical simulation.
