AC/DC power converter is the most commonly used power electronic devices. Because of its low input power factor, it has become a major harmonics pollution. Since 1990s with a series of harmonics standards had been promulgated and implemented.Active power factor correction technology was paid more attention and developed rapidly.Firstly this paper introduces the principles and methods of power factor correction technology, and single-stage power factor correction techniques are analyzed and compared. This paper studys a novel single stage power factor corrected three-level converter. The three-level topology reduces the voltage stress across the power switches to 50% of the bus voltage, then it is easy for us to choose the switching devices, and all the switches operate under a zero-voltage turn-on condition.A modelling approach based on average multiple frequency methods is also adopted. This approach leads to the development of a full order state space model. As DCM and CCM model, this paper has a complete mathematical derivation,it can readily be simplified to a small signal model. In conclusion, the correctness and feasibility of this single stage power factor corrected three-level converter are proved by the theoretical analyses, simulation research.
