Since the birth of the first expressway in China in1980s, expressway develops quickly. The expressway net of five vertical and seven horizontal has shaped, and the total mileage is up to 65,000 km in the end of 2009. The rapid development of expressway has brought the huge benefits of the economy and the society. But with the development of expressway and the increasing in the number of cars, traffic congestion and safety issues are also increasingly serious.The rapid development of economy led to the increasing amount of logistics and logistics development to the expressway transport industry brought great traffic flow. In holidays, travel traffic flow increases dramatically, particularly in a single direction of traffic, and the rapid increase in traffic flow leads expressway to prone to traffic jams. In addition, during road maintenance or bad weather conditions, such as fog, rain, snow, the expressway capacity decreases significantly, it is likely to cause congestion.The on-ramp control can effectively alleviate expressway congestion situation, and increase the utilization of expressway. The traditional mathematical model based on accurate traffic control is not only complex, but also is often not achieve the desired effect in the practical application of control. So, in this thesis, the fuzzy control is used to achieve real-time control for the entrance ramp metering rate. And the use of MATLAB software achieves the simulation of the on-ramp control.The main variable speed-limit control is also an effective way to alleviate traffic congestion. In this thesis, according to traffic flow status, weather conditions, road conditions, the fuzzy control principle is used to develop the best max speed of expressway and the use of MATLAB software achieves the simulation.In the thesis, an expressway traffic control and guidance simulate system is done by using Visual C++ software. The system's function is divided into three parts, information manage, traffic control, guidance information.Study shows that, these methods of the on-ramp control and the main variable speed-limit control can effectively relieve the highway peak traffic congestion.
