Self-aligning torque is one of the main recovery torques which make wheels turn back to straight road and also is an important factor effecting on driver's driving behavior. Previous driving simulators usually use spring or magnetic powder clutch to generate self-aligning torque, but their simulation effect is not so good. Drivers can obtain important information about driving conditions and road conditions indirectly from steering wheel. Therefore, the driving simulator's sense of reality can be enhanced by improving the simulation results of self-aligning torque on the steering wheel. To sum up, it is important to enhance simulation results of self-aligning torque on the steering wheel for creating realistic driving simulation environment.There are many factors effecting on self-aligning torque and self-aligning torque is always changing in operating, so it is quite difficult for us to simulate it timely. The paper mainly researched in how to build simulation model for self-aligning torque on the steering wheel and design its simulation system. The mainly work and research results of the paper are as follows:(1) Deeply research in its automobile steering system and analyze the cause of self-aligning torque and its influencing factors, lay a solid foundation for self-aligning torque's simulation model.(2) Analyze wheeling wheel's stress situation and characteristics of steering system, have established simulation model of self-aligning torque on steering wheel.(3) Design and compete the simulation system of self-aligning torque on the steering wheel which is based on the research of basic theory.(4) In order to verify that the simulation results of the system are similar with the fact, do experiment in the experimental platform and automobile driving simulator.This paper designs and completes the simulation system of self-aligning torque on steering wheel, and have realized the simulation of self-aligning torque on the steering wheel and steering wheel's vibration. Through drivers'practical test, the system can get satisfied simulation results of self-aligning torque on the steering wheel and steering wheel's vibration when it is operating. The effect is lifelike and strengthens driving simulator's sense of reality.
