In recent years, with the rapid development of China's economic, construction industry grows rapidly, there are more and more engineering involve in deep excavation and slope supporting projects, as a common style of supporting, soil nailing has been widely used in deep foundation and slope reinforcement. There has a phenomenon current that practice of soil nailing in advance of the theory, the design of soil nailing is generally determined by engineering analogy and experience, which leads to rather conservative to the supporting structure, so there has a space in economical optimization. In ensuring the stability of soil nailing request, searching for more economical soil nailing supporting program is the focus of the soil nailing study. This paper described in details the mechanism of soil nailing, the different damage modes of soil nailing, soil nailing design and calculation and the sensitivity of the stability of soil nailing influenced by design parameters. Based on the research of papers national and aboard, An optimization model proposed by application of hierarchical genetic algorithm in this paper, in which a soil nailing cost as the objective function and the internal overall stability of the soil nailing as primary controlling factor, through project calculation and analysis, checking the internal overall stability of the optimization program, verify the feasibility of the optimization model. Comparison with the traditional genetic algorithm, we knew the HGA is more efficient operation, has a good search capability and gets better economic indicators of the objective function. The optimization model of the HGA in this paper can avoids soil nailing material waste caused by the engineering analogy and experience design, provides a theoretical basis to engineers.
