Recent years because of the application of UHV transmission line, more and more steel tube tower is used as transmission tower. The members of the steel tube transmission tower connect to each other by gusset plate which is used to transmit force. We call this plugboard connection. So gusset plate is the key part of the joint, we should pay great attention on it. The research about the connection joint of the transmission tower has just begun, so there is little reference we can inquire. The ultimate strength of gusset plate of Tubular K-joints was explored primarily and the following researches are are performed:(1) Experimental research. Experiment is the most important research method of ultimate strength of gusset plate.Because the size of tubular K-joints used in practice engineering is always large and the small size one tries a simulation actual conditions very difficult to be accurate, so the full scale tests study is of significance much more.Full scale tests on 15 tubular K-joints is carried out in this dissertation.Then the tests result is compared with results of finite-element analysis the difference of them are analyzed.The results of full scale tests in this dissertation can reinforce international database of test.(2) Finite element analysis. The parameters which influence the ultimate strength of gusset-plate and the failure mode of the plate was analyzed roundly based on a mass of full size model experiment data and FEM. The failure modes and failure mechanism were analyzed about the plate.The ultimate strength of plate depends on width-thickness ratio, non-limb length and conformation of the plate. The plate was ribbed in the middle part and along splice member,which can alter the failure model and the invalidation avenue and improved the ultimate strength of the plate. Adding free edge stiffeners can increase the buckling strength of gusset-plate connections efficiently.The proposal calculation method of the ultimate strength of the plate was put forward based on an inelastic plate buckling equation .(3) Practical calculation formula. Simple design formula on the ultimate compressive strength of gusset plate of the tubular K-joints is presented basing on the results of finite-element study It has bigness significance to perfect design formula of gusset plate of the tubular K-joints and it also can give some advices to practice engineering.
