On-line monitoring of electrical equipment is an important method to prevent electric power system failures. Currently, the communications means of electrical equipments on-line monitoring is mainly wired, it has features of complex wiring and increasing vulnerabilities, which makes maintenance and mend hard. Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a new control network technology, which is a perfect way to overcome the restrictions. The self-organization, adaptability and flexibility topology of wireless sensor network can greatly enhance reliability of on-line monitoring system. Exact time synchronization is one of the main conditions for realizing wireless sensor network's self protocol run, data fusion, TDMA attempter, cooperative sleep, orientation etc. Network communication program is the base for networking, routing, and data transmission in wireless sensor networks. The application fields of WSN do not need high bandwidth, only require low latency, low power consumption, while the ZigBee protocol just satisfy this requirement. The relational study based on those is proposed and the main contents are as follows:Firstly, the feasibility of applying wireless sensor network for electrical equipments on-line monitoring is analyzed, and then the key technology of WSN applied in power system is summerized, at last the architecture of wireless sensor network (WSN) based on eluster algorithm for large generator on-line monitoring is presented, and the test of eluster algorithm was preceded.Secondly, a time synchronization scheme which is suitable for the wireless sensor network is proposed on the basis of comparing existing time synchronization protocol, mechanism and algorithm of wireless sensor network. This time synchronization scheme integrates internal synchronization with external synchronization, unidirectional broadcast combined with linear regression is adopted in the course of synchronization. At last the algorithm is simulated and compared with TPSN by simulation software NS, which proves that the algorithm is suitable for the monitoring networks.Thirdly, a systematic development of network communication program for wireless sensor networks is presented. The hardware abstraction architecture and communication mechanism of TinyOS2.x operating system is deeply analyzed.On this basis the development and implementation process of network communication program for wireless sensor networks is presented.At the same time the time synchronization algorithm designed in this article is partially realized.Finally, Experimental study about applying ZigBee technology in wireless sensor networks was carried out. First the ZigBee Specification is summarized, then the hardware abstraction architecture of TinyOS operating system is deeply analyzed.The characteristics of ZigBee technology is analyzed by comparing it with custom radio technology, the block diagram of node design based on CC2430 and correlative developing system is put forward. The realization procedure of program design is presented on the base of the application abstraction architecture of CC2430 under TinyOS2.x operating system, an on-line monitoring system based on ZigBee technology is also realized, which has actual meaning for applying the technology of ZigBee in wireless sensor networks for electrical equipment on-line monitoring.
