With the continuous improvement of living standards and scientific and technological progress, all kinds of battery products have been used in different fields widely. In recent years, the china battery industry is trying to promote the process of becoming high-performance, pollution-free and non-pollution. The alkaline manganese battery has gradually become the generation product of the ordinary zinc-manganese battery. As an important factor affecting the performance of the battery, the research and production of separator is very important.The domestic battery manufactures mainly relied on import separator. Although domestic research institutions and companies have developed our own separator, but they still can't occupy the market just because the gap of application performance with import separator. This research addresses the gap between domestic and import separator and make some valuation and feasibility analysis for the alkaline battery separator and it's raw materials to provide support for separator's research and production. The contents of the dissertation conclude three parts:The first, analyzing the raw material,structure and performance of brand separator and the separator used in various kinds of alkaline batteries. The result showed that the alkaline battery separator is basically a production of wet non-woven made of PVA fiber and one or more cellulosic fibre. The base weight of domestic separator is 38g/m2 while the import is 35~36 g/m2 , the thickness is around 100μm except NKK. Compare to the import separator , the evenness of domestic separator is worse and the pore size is larger. The structure will change after soaking in alkaline liquor, and the domestic separator is more easy to change. Different batteries will use different separators.The second, analyzing stability and usability of PVA fiber and viscose fiber we have. The result showed the viscose fiber has good dispersity, the import PVA fiber has better dispersity and is less flat. The domestic PVA fiber has some fiber bundles can't disperse caused by hot knifing. The domestic and import water soluble PVA fiber have different change with the water temperature changed, we must make production process according their own temperature sensitivity.The third, the optimization of mercerized pulp beating degree, according the fibrillation level in different beating revolution and the influence on separator performances, the suitable beating degree of mercerized pulp is no more than 2000 revolutions; for the pulp with low beating degree, a good method can view the fibrillation level is adopting freeze-drying and then observe by scanning electron microscope.
