There are many types of car crash accidents, including frontal crash, side crash, rear-end crash and so on. Among them, frontal crash accident's occurrence frequency is highest and the side crash accident's occurrence frequency is only inferior to frontal crash. In the year 2004, china started to constitute the national compulsory standard " Passengers Protection in Side Crash ", and it was implemented in July 2006. New cars produced by domestic automobile factory have to reach the standard before sale in market.The side of car body is relatively weak position, because the energy absorbing space is very small, passengers faces higher injury risk in the side crash accident than in the frontal crash. Therefore, the automobile side crashworthiness research has great significance to protect the passengers'personal safety and improve the road traffic safety of our country. B-pillar is the most important part to resist the side crash. In side crash accidents. B-pillar itself is not only under huge wallop, but also support the doors, roof panel and the threshold. Thus, improve the crashworthiness of B-pillar has important significance to side crash safety of automobiles.This paper has combined a domestic research project and conducted side crash simulation analysis to a self-developed SUV base on the side crash standard GB20071. Assessment the side crashworthiness of the car body from several aspects include speed, energy, structure invasion as well as invasion speed. Compare the simulation results with the side crash test results, it shows that the method used in the simulation is feasible and the analysis results is effective.This paper has introduced a kind of section variable steel plate named TRB. TRB can realize continual variable section, it product by the flexible rolling craft. Body parts made of TRB have good lightweight effect. First of all, conducted fine simulation analysis to the basic mechanical properties of TRB. Then applies TRB in the B pillar of automobile body, and carries on the optimization design to it base on experimental design and response surface method. This paper proposed two different optimization plans. Optimization objects of this two plans are weight reduction and performance enhancement. Optimization plan one has reduced the weight of automobile body without weaken the crashworthiness. And the second plan strengthen the performance of side crash. The enterprise can choose any one according to their demand.
