Structural construction is expensive, costly in time and resource. In China, a considerable amount of existing buildings have been suffering from loss of stability, endurance and usability as a consequence of design carelessness or construction fault. To ensure these buildings' functionality, extend their lives, it's necessary to conduct investigation and remediation based on survey result.Experience approach and practical approach, two existing structural rating approaches in common use, can't take uncertainty of load and resistance into account. Series disperse of load and resistance parameters may let rating result disagree with reality. Additionally, structural reliability rating using deterministic analysis can't achieve a unification of design reliability and real reliability.In this essay, basic reliability theory with emphasis on first degree reliability method (FORM) is introduced. In combine with available stochastic finite element method programs, procedure of finding design point in finite element model as well as data structure of this procedure is presented. Process of creating finite element model and uncertainty model is integrated.Probabilistic model of existing structural load and resistance is discussed. Probabilistic model of load is elaborated, specifically, probabilistic model and parameter of dead load, live load, wind load and earthquake load. Difference of load identification between structural design and structural inspection is compared. A brief introduction to structural resistance capability is presented.In the last chapter, basic reliability computation, structural member reliability computation and structural framework reliability computation is executed making use of the analytic procedure discussed in this essay. Precision of this method is proofed by comparing reliability result to other literature. In existing structural framework reliability computation example, a 3 stories 2 bay plane frame is created and analyzed. The reliability index, failure probability and sensitivity of this example show reasonable result.
