Chinese traditional wooden construction is the only wood construction system in the world, it passes through five millenniums of civilization, condenses chinese people's industry and wisdom, contains intense national spirit, is a dazzling art work of chinese nation. As a characteristic component of chinese traditional wooden construction, the column plinth not only plays the stress load-bearing structure role and the decoration function, but also as a carrier of transmitting the humanities thought, it has many characteristics such as "long history,high preserved quantity, broad molding form, high artistic value"Takes column plinth as the research object, The first step is studying the origin of culture, This paper systematically studied the development history and evolution process of column plinth art, and the influences and impetus from the social culture, folk life and technology level. Then,I comprehensively analyzed the aesthetic characteristics of column plinth, summarized and classification the molding and carving ornamentation of it. The decoration derive from geometric shapes, household appliances, religious culture, folk customs and other aspects. There are some types of column plinth:lotus, drum, animal, compound type, etc., in these types, some have cultural appeal, some have function consideration, others express unique aesthetic interest. They showed different features depend on the different construction types, regional and cultural.In modern architecture, although the traditional column plinth form has disappeared, but it's verve still exist, the Chinese culture with thousands of years has ingrained influences on Chinese people, people has strong psychological demands, and make every attempt to show it in modern architecture. This profoundly illustrate the great power of traditional culture.In the end, based on the project practice, this paper illustrate it very well that we should set up a strong sense of mission, protect the precious heritage our ancestors left and protect and develop the right way of tradition building culture.
