Tower crane has abroad application in construction and industry lifting. Frequently starting, breaking and coupling movements always happen when tower crane working. Accurate description and calculation of the dynamic process of tower crane will give guiding to designing and production. With the technology development and application domain enlargement, computer has abroad application in modern design.Finite element method is a valid method for solving static and dynamic issue by computer assistanting,it is efficient to analysis complex construction and enhance the velocity and level of design. The development status, dynamic characteristics study and extent of application of tower crane was expatiated in this paper, and in allusion to the complexion that current study is merely restrcted to modal analysis and dynamic response analysis, dynamic optimization design thoughts by using ANSYS was bring forward in this paper.Based on the thought, one type crane tower was selected to analysis its dynamic characteristics. According to the theory of elasticity, FEM dynamics model was built, the key mode frequency was got by modal analysis and harmonic response analysis, and take the frequency as target function, sensitivity analysis has been done for all structure parameters to select the dynamic optimum design variables. Dynamic optimum mathematic model is built with restraints of structure mass, static strength, static stiffness and dynamic displacement response amplitude. The result of analysis shows that both static and dynamic characters are improved significantly after optimization, as well as lighten structure mass and manufacture cost decreasing effectively.
