Research On "More With Less" Eco-desigh Thoughts And Application

The"More With Less"thoughts is conceived by Richard Buckminster Fuller, who was an American architect, designer, inventor, futurist, and was the first person who advocated the use of renewable energy sources in 20 century. He had special thought about the relationship among architecture, energy, environment; his idea"more with less"influences on later ages, he used science and technology to make his eco-dream true; his eco-design works make people start thinking about ecological building.From the perspective of arcology, this paper researched on the course of Fuller's explore on the thoughts of"more with less", re-thought the methods of eco-design, to find a rational way for design. Based on the above and the research that how the developed countries inherit Fuller's thought, this paper aims to bring enlightenment to eco-building design and sustainable construction in China.(1) Eco-thought of"More With Less". Fuller accounted that design should be rational, and he believed that science and technology would work in finding the best plan to minimize the depletion of materials, in this way, the contradiction between human being and the natural resources, environment would be relieved, and the limited resources would efficiently to meet the pursuit of all mankind for the comfortable.(2) Eco-design skill of"More with less". Fuller finished many eco-works under the thought of"More with less".(3)"More with less"and arcology. Fuller's"More with less"brought inspiration to many architects, and promotes arcological development.(4) Promotion and application of"More with less"thought. Fuller's"More with less" works has been promoted and applicated, so it's no doubt that the thought of"More with less"is ecological and great foresight.(5) Enlightenment of"More with less". The thought and skill of"More with less"is beyond Time, and will bring enlightenment to the current arcological design. The last part of this paper, stressed that"More with less"design skill would be meaningful for the arcology practice in our country.
