The Bus is one of the prime Traffic Tool for people's trip. Since time of bus operation is too long and the area of bus operation is too wide, it becomes main pollution source to the atmosphere of Shanghai. Controlling the exhaust pollution caused by bus become main concern for government and citizen. Accordingly, energy saving and emission reduction become emphases for public transportation industry. Developing safe, economical, clean traffic energy and diverse automotive energy should be one of approach to solving the problem and realize sustainable development.In all kinds of automotive substitution energy, natural gas has some characteristics such as low carbon, burning cleanly, supply steadily, practicality, high degree of industrialization. Therefore, it receives the attention from the domestic and foreign. At present, there are ten million natural gas vehicles around the world. In order to deal with short of petroleum resource and atmosphere pollution caused by more and more vehicles, energy diversity as well as electric automobile and substitution energy vehicle are mainly supported by our government.In developing natural gas bus, Shanghai is faced with the important task, namely natural gas engine selection and localization of import natural gas engine. In order to provide the basis for making decision, Shanghai Sunwin Bus, public transportation company and engine manufacturer, have compared natural gas engine of shanghai diesel engine co., LTD with two kinds of import natural gas engine, and have carried out the test of scale application from Nov. 2004 to Dec. 2005 and from Dec. 2008 to Mar. 2009 under support of Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality. Domestic natural gas engine T6114ZLQ4B has been applied to the public transportation line on a large scale. As a result, reliability, economy and security of domestic natural gas engine application are verified. Furthermore, this provides substantial support for Shanghai to extend and apply natural gas bus on a large scale.Base on experimental results with respect to power performance, economic performance and reliability, this paper propose an approach of selecting natural gas engine from shanghai diesel engine T6114ZLQ4B, Benz M906LAG and Cummins CG-250 by AHP analysis. Finally, it is determined that shanghai diesel engine T6114ZLQ4B has been selected according to AHP.
