The damage of water for highway subgrade and pavement has already aroused domestic and foreign scientific research departments' attention. A large number of data indicate that both at home and abroad, most researches focuses on the effect of water to the internal drainage pavement structure and the highway pavement, but little research on the integrity of the highway drainage system. The current level of highway drainage design is very low, multi-component experience, blind arbitrary large, generally, road surface water drainage will be a major consideration, to prevent the inefficiency of road surface water drainage or infiltration of pavement damage. However, the design of highway drainage systems need to take full account of the causes of the damaged structures in the highway and the relationship between regional topography, geology, hydrological meteorological and hydrological geology conditions, road facilities and river, slope and the gully. And the function of the increasingly improved geographic information system which provide a new design method for high-speed drainage system. From the point of system aspect, we can analysis highway expressway hydrological, geological and topographical factors, combined with hydraulic calculation and analysis, and design highway comprehensive drainage. In this paper, this article mainly aims at the surface drainage system study for highway of mountain area.Based on the above concept, this paper used the TOPAZ model of WMS to determine the catchment area of the highway, use the Geodata Base model of ARCGIS software to establish geographic information database for catchment areas along the mountain highway. In this research, digital river network has been extracted by the Drainage Module of WMS. Using a DEM to extract drainage and identify sub-basins, the HEC-1 model of WMS complete basin convergence calculation, calculate each sub-basin's outlet flow amount. Set the water outlet along the route pass by, the TOPAZ model can determine the catchment area of the line, so it is easy to calculate the preliminary design of drainage facilities, combined with the HY-8 models, complete hydraulic analysis of the facilities. Finally, the author uses this method to analysis the Lantian to Shangluo highway drainage design, amend the original size of road drainage facilities, verified the feasibility of the preliminary concept. As the study shows, GIS technology provide a new and system methods for highway drainage design, improve the automation and accuracy of the drainage design.
