A new iterative scheme for the calculating of point contact EHL is proposed in the paper. Through changing the modulus matrix of the equations with a full element matrix to a band one with sparse elements, the astringency and the calculating speed are greatly improved. A universal computer program is developed based on the iterative scheme. A group of different cases of point EHL problems are calculated, the typical characters of point EHL are obtained, and the solution is compared with the solution which is calculated through the Hamrock-Dowson formula, which proves that the algorithm proposed in the dissertation is correct and reliable.The effects of numerical stability and calculating speed upon the half bandwidth, which in changing the modulus matrix of the equations with a full element matrix to a band one with sparse elements are studied in the paper. we found that when the value of half bandwidth is in 19%~25% of the full element, the algorithm has the best calculating speed and more wide- ranging load.
