With the rapid development of technology of automotive industry, it brought along the booming of automotive friction materials industry. At the same time of continuously improve the performance of the whole unit of an automobile, the people have become increasingly more discriminating in regard to quality of friction material that as automotive brake safe part. For a long time, brake performance and wear performance of friction material are concerned important points of friction industry. With continuously improvement of level of science and technology, brake performance and wear performance of friction material is no longer a technical problem of friction material research field, while speed sensitivity, brake noise of brake comfortable performance is has been getting more and more attention. As is well known, high compressibility performance of the friction material has a direct relationship with the brake comfortable performance. Compressibility performance of friction material plays a significant role in automotive brake performance composite index, which is a very important evaluation index for researching controlling brake noise of automotive brake system, and also is a important index for researching friction interface temperature filed and friction material heat transfer. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a friction material tester that can meet related standard requirement, test high precision.This paper strictly refers to national road vehicle brake pad compressibility strain test methods, from three aspects which includes mechanical part, hydraulic servo control part and electrical control part to research and study friction material tester. The tester adopts computer automatic control system, input initial parameters by keyboard, finish load process automatically, and test result is output by printer after computer processed.This paper takes designing tester as core, and the first confirmed the machine designing plan from mechanism, hydraulic, and electrical control three aspects, and by analyzing the influence factors of compressibility characteristics of friction material, to master the importance of testing compressibility characteristics of friction material.
