As a geographical terminology, "farming radius" has not been given pretty much attention in the field of history. In fact, the problem has been prevalent since ancient China. An over long "farming radius" will inevitably increase the farmers’labor intensity, so that in a few thousand years of historical development, Chinese farmers have summed up a lot of experience to solve this problem, such as relocation, land selection, etc.Based on introducing the "farming radius" theory, this paper analyzes farmers’ solutions to solve this problem except relocating by exploring the phenomenon of the scattered distribution of farmers’lands reflected in Dunhuang and Turpan Instruments, that is the over long "farming radius". Meanwhile, there are two key problems to solve: 1, Study the performance of "farming radius" phenomenon in Dunhuang and Turpan and the measures taken by the state and its farmers; 2, Form a more lucid understanding of the phenomenon of "farming radius" by comparing the different geographical conditions of Dunhuang and Turpan. The paper is divided into five parts. The first part is the introduction:It illustrates the main reason to explain the significance of this topic, describes the domestic and overseas relevant research results at home, as well as defines some of the relevant concepts; The second part is to survey of "farming radius"phenomenon in the history and to analyze the main measures to solve this problem in different historical period on this basis; The third part is based on case study of the specific circumstances of Dunhuang and Turpan Instruments and deeply explore the differences in the land distribution in Dunhuang and Turpan and the reason; The fourth part is to analyze the two different behaviors of both the upper government and the lower residents to solve this problem; The fifth part is the conclusion:It brings inspiration to relevant researches on other periods and regions by analyzing the special case of Dunhuang and Turpan regions.Based on the case study of Dunhuang and Turpan Instruments, this paper aims to break the previous model of merely studying the history and introduce the "farming radius" theory, so that the related researches have got a theoretical support related issues and this paper provides reference to related researches in the future. In addition, by choosing this new perspective of crop choosing, this paper also provides new research perspectives on the related issues of "farming radius". Meanwhile, through a lot of paperwork records, the author analyzes the land distribution in Dunhuang and Turpan regions in each historical period and calculate the value of centralized land distribution so that this situation can be more clearly illustrated.
