Master: Y.Z.Tang Director: D.X.Deng (Agriculture college of Vangzhou university, Jiangsu Yangzhou , P R China, 225009) Abstract:Heterosis utilization is main way of maize breeding. High photosynthetic efficiency breeding is to improve crop photosynthetic efficiency by means of breeding and then improve crop yield. Both means need expanding use of germplasm resoruce. In present day, straitness of germplasm resource stands the way of maize breeding in China. So, new germplasm and expanding use of germplasm resource arc required. Leafy maize is a new type of ge:mplasm introduced from America and precious material for high photosynthetic efficiency breeding. It has some characteristics: Leafy plants have 8?5 leaves above the ear and better stalk strength; Leafy plants are much taller than non-leafy plants and have more flourishing root. This paper deals with the photosynthetic ability of the leafy germplasm and major gene plus polygene mixed inheritance model is applied to the genetic analysis of the leafy trait. The rusults indicated that (1)Under the condition of photic treatment or non-photic treatment , the dry weight of leafy plant is heavier than non-lfy material. (2)The increment of lfy material is quicker than non-lfy plant, which indicat that the photosynthetic rate of leafy plant is higher than common material. (3)The leafy trait is controled by two major genes plus polygenes and the effect of major gene varied from different cross conbinations.
