The study here was undertaken to elucidate the inheritance of two pre-harvest sprouting(PHS)resistance materials Changj iang88O9 and Fengchan3 for facilitating the breeding for the PHS resistance germplasms with white seed color. For this purpose, two set of recombinant inbred lines(RILs)was developed by crossing changjiang88o9 (P1-IS- tolerant, red kernels) with 84-I I 55(PHS-susceptible,white kernels)reciprocally,and two populations were made by using reciprocal cross between Fengchan3 (PHS-tolerant, white kernels) LunzongF6 (PHS-susccptible, white kernels), 185 247~. 166.. 157 F7families were available from Changjiang88o9/84-1 155. 84-I ISSIChangjiang88O9.. Fengchari3/LunzongF6 and LunzongF6/Fengchan3 respectively. All RILs and their respective parental lines were evaluated for PHS on spikes and germination percentage of threshed grains before pre-harvest, as well as sprouting percentage on spikes at harvesting time.Seed kernel color of RILs line in the reciprocal cross Changjiang8809/84-l 155 were determined. Flour protein concentrations and sedimentation values in 30%RILs of the all four reciprocal cross were measured. Plant height and days to anthesis of each line were recorded. All the experimental lines were grown in field in in 1999/2000and 2000/2001 growing season. The results as followed: 1. The PHS resistance of parental line Changjiang88o9 was controlled by 2-3 dominant genes,its seed color was controlled by two R gene, arid seed color was linked with its PHS resistance. 2. The PHS resistance of Fengchan3 was controlled by minor polygene. 3. The PHS resistance had a negative correlation with flour protein contents and sedimentation values. Sprouting in seed had greater negative effect in sedimentation values than protein contents.The P1-IS resistance was the important part to evaluated the wheat quality. 4 4. Germination percentage of threshed seeds and sprouting percemtage in spikes pre- harvest had a significant positive correlation with sprouting percentage on spikes in field at harvest time. 5. In breeding for white PI-[S resistance germplasm, Fengchan3 had much more potential than Changjiang8sO9.
