Intensive swine farms are frequently the subject of odour complaints and are also known emitters of ammonia. Current waste management systems for swine facilities result in nitrogen losses of approximate 75%. Most of the loss occurs through the rapid hydrolysis of urinary nitrogen (urea) to ammonia by microbial urease that present in fecal of pig. This research was conducted to study the inhibitory effect of Comphor Family Plant ExtractCFPE) on urease in fecal of growing pigs(w vitro); to study the effect of CFPE, which used as feed additives, on the fecal urease activity, urea nitrogen(UN) and total nitrogen(TN) in slurry, production performance in growing pigs (feeding trial} .In the in vitro experiment, ethanol and methylene chloride was used as the solvent to distill the Comphor Family Plant. The ethanol Comphor Family Plant Extract(CFPE) and methylene chloride Comphor Family Plant Extract [CFPE(MC)] was compared with their inhibitory effect on urease in fecal of gorwing pigs. It was found that the fecal urease activity was decreased in a dose-dependent manner, with presence of CFPE or CFPE(MC),. While adding 1ml CFPE to 5g fecal of growing pig, the fecal urease activity was decreased by 10.50%(P<0.05), and the fecal urease activity decreased further with dose adding, fecal urease activity decreased by 14.50%(P<0.oi), 19.50(P<0.01), 33.00%(P<0.01), 35.67%(P<0.01) based on the dose of CFPE was 2ml,4ml,8ml,16ml, respectively. As for CFPE (MC), the fecal urease avtivity was decreased by 10.33%(P<0.05), 21.17%(P<0.01), 24.67%(P<0.01), 39.17%(P<0.01), 53.17%(P<0.01), 58.67%(P<0.01) base on the dose of CFPE (MC) is 0.5ml, 1ml, 2ml, 4ml, 8ml and 16ml, respectivly. The co-effect betweenCFPE and Acetohydroxamic acid(AHA) on inhibiting fecal urease activity was also sdudy, it was found that there was almost no co-effect on inhibiting fecal urease activity. These results indicated that both ethanol and methylene chloride could be used as solvent to distill this Comphor Family Plant, the mechnism of CFPE inhibiting fecal urease may famaliar with AHA, which is known as competitive inhibition.A total of 108 DurocXLandraceXL.Youkshire crossbred pigs(approximately 22.5 1.0kg)were employed in the feeding trail. Treatments were: Tl, control (contain 0mg/kg CFPE); T2, 2%premix(contain 150mg/kg CFPE); T3, 2%premix(contain 300mg/kg CFPE); T4, 2%premix(contain 450mg/kg CFPE); T5, 2% premix(contain 600mg/kg CFPE); T6, l%(contain 450mg/kg CFPE). Each treatment was evaluted using three pens of 18 pigs, with three replicates one treatment, each replicate with 6 pigs in one pen that fed on concrete floor. The growing pigs were fed with diet I at the beginning , after 30 days pigs with diet II. On the 10th day and 20th day of each feed, the fecal samples of growing pigs is collected for studying fecal urease activity, UN and TN of slurry. At the end of trail, one barrow and one gilt per replicate were bled to collect serum. In addition, the digestive experiments, with acid insoluble ash as indictor, were conducted at three days before the end of each feed. In this experiment the additives affected the performance of the growing pigs. Compared to control, The final weigh and average daily feed intake (ADFI) of T6 was increased by 4.43%(P<0.05) and 6.97%(P<0.05), respectively; and Feed:Gain(F/G) of T6 was decreased by 1.82%(P<0.05). It was found that the fecal urease activity was decrease with increasing dose of CFPE in both feed I and feed II, the fecal urease activity . of T6 decreased by 18.57%(P<0.01), 13.13%(P<0.05), 9.70%(P<0.01), 19.34%(P<0.01) in the 4 times fecal samples, respectively. It was also found that the UN and TN of slurry was also increase with increasing dose of CFPE in both feed, these result confirmed the result of the fecal urease activity. In these samples, the UN of slurry was 2.07(P<0.01) times, 2.19(P<0.01) times, 1.41(P<0.05) times, 2.05(P<0.01)times to control on the 24th hour, the TN of slurry was increased by 16.13(P<0.05), 7.10(P<0.05), 12.53(P<0.05), 12.15(P<0.05), respectively. It was also foun...
