[ABSTRACT] Solar radiation plays an important role in microclimate in mountain areas. The distribution of solar radiant quantity is various due to the complex terrain condition of rough country. In consequence it impacts other climate factors such as temperature, humidity and regional wind which result in forming the unique microclimate. With the use of digital elevation models (DEM) the simulation of solar radiation in micro-terrain could be realized. Through calculating necessary topographic factors such as slope gradient, orientation of slope (aspect) and terrain shading, assisted by geographic information system (GIS) multi-layer composite analysis, this paper calculates the total solar radiation grid by grid, whilst, analyses the spa-temporal distribution law of solar radiation. Moreover, the model of land surface temperature also be formulated and revised with the above results. At last a test of agriculture application on planning of Fushi apple is set up. Result shows that the method DEM-based simulation of solar radiation and temperature is applicable in any rough areas, it provide not only quantities of solar radiation and temperature, but also the space-time distribution principle of solar radiation. Furthermore, it provides significant reference for the research of microclimate, agricultural programming and the application of solar energy.
