The selection of parents is key to sugarcane sexual hybridization, which closely associates with the breeding result. Traditionally, sugarcane breeding is mainly up to the breeder's experience. Scientifically, parents selection is decided according to the analysis of cooperation strength, hereditary strength and the genetic correlation, also the genetic distance among agronomic characters and the kindred relationship between the parents. Based on the past research, RAPD(random amplified polymorphism of DNA,RAPD) was used to value the parents selection. 31 sugarcane germplasms were investigated with RAPD and a cluster analysis was made. Two breeds (CP72-1210,Zhan74-121) were selected as parents to make sexual cross. These two breeds have good agronomic characters and their genetic distance is acceptable. 85 clones were selected randomly from F1 then traced and researched. Their population separation, agronomic characters and the genetic diversity of RAPD were studied to value the cross combinations.Choosing is another important step in sugarcane breeding. The population of sugarcane offspring is usually featured as large number, often hundreds and thousands. So it is hard to choose the strain which is excellent in all aspects from such a large populations. Also a lot of laborites and founds will be investigated. Thus sugarcane breeders are earnestly long for a convenient and effective method to make correct selection. In this study, the statistical analysis of F1 agronomic traits were made and a function was established with the confidence region is 95%. Three factors were researched and they are plantheight, stalk diameter and brix. The function is y=a bixi, and thedetermination coefficient of independent variable element Xj to the function is R2=0.9942, thus the difference is significant. The result showed that the expected value of y and the raw data from investigation from field were coincided highly. So this study provides scientific theory for the parents selection and F1 selection of sugarcane, contributed to the basic work for the high-efficient breeding for sugarcane.
