In this study 16 rabies virus were isolated from 595 brain samples of animal in Guangxi , and then Nucleoprotein(N) and Glycoprotein(G) genes of 16 rabies isolates were cloned and sequenced. The results indicated all rabies virus isolated from Guangxi are genotype I of lyssavirus and could be divided into 3 groups as I, Hand III. Group I could be divided into 2 subgroup as subgroup Ia and subgroup I b. Ten isolates GXHX, GXSL, GXO1, GX08, GX09, GX014, GX091, GX195, GX260 and GXLA belong to group I , of which GXHX.GX08, GX09, GX014, GX195 and GX260 are in subgroup I a. GXSL, GX01.GX091 and GXLA are in subgroup I b. 5 isolates GXPX, GX304, GX219, GX074 and GXBM belong to group II.Only one isolate GX119 belong to group III.The nucleotide homologies of nucleoprotein gene of GXHX, GXSL, GX01, GX08, GX09, GX014, GX091, GX195, GX260 and GXLA strains were 97.9% to 99.8%. In group II, the nucleotide homologies of GXPX, GX304, GX219, GX074 and GXBM strains were 98. 7% to 99. 9%. The glycoprotein genes homologies of rabies strains were 97. 6% to 99. 9% in the group I and were 98.2% to 99.0% in the group II.The result demonstrated that there are more synonymous mutations in N gene thani n G gene, the mutations focus on 42, 90, 110, 128, 135, 332, 379 and 397 am i no ac i d of nucleoprotein and focus on - 16, -15, -14, -13, -5, -2, 90, 96, 132, 140, 156, 168, 170, 204, 241, 249, 253, 264, 289, 332, 382, 427, 436, 445, 463 and 474 amino acid on glycoprote i n, all mutationon of amino acid have specificity of group. In all rabies virus isolated from Gaungxi, the 389 phosphorylated site of Serineis not mutative, the main antigenic sites and the T helper epi topes of nucleoprotein are very conservative. To compared the amino acid sequences of glycoprotein , either the main antigenic regions of GI and GII or the ma i n antigenic sites of 36,253,264 and 367 amino acid are not any mutative, only the 332 sites of Valine mutate to lsoleucine. To analyse the sequence of nucleoprotein gene and glycoprotein gene of 16 rabies virus isolates, it indicates there are 10 strains in group I and they mainly distribute in the east region of Guangxi, subgrouop la mainly distribute in the southeast and subgroup Ib in northeast of Guangxi. Group II mainly distribute in the west region of Gunagxi. Group III has only one strain GX119 which isolated from Nanning and it is in same group with those strains isolated from Thailand and Malaya.
