Astragalus is a perennial legume, whose root is a common nourishing herbal medicine. The germination features, growing trends, dynamic accumulation regularity of effective components and the accumulation sites were studied in order to provide theoretical basis and technical indexes for the standardized cultivation of Astragalus. We have gotten results as follows: 1,A comparative experiment on water absorption of cultivate seeds and wild seeds and germinating ratio under different temperatures have been conducted by using many different test methods in labs. The results showed that seeds rubbed with sand had a higher germinating ratio than treated by other methods and the restriction of seed capsule is a direct cause of low germinating ratio of Astragalus seeds. Besides, the germinating ratio treated under 23/15℃is higher than other treatments, and different gathering periods also affected the germination ratio. 2,The method of biomass determination and chemical analysis were applied to study different Astragalus in the same district and the same variety in different areas and to determine the content of the effective components. Results indicated that the growing trends and the effective components both differ with the difference of areas; the difference of living environments lead to the variations of growing trends, structures and effective components contents. 3,The root structure, changes of effective components and the accumulation sites of the effective components were studied with paraffin wax section method and histochemical localization. Results showed that the secondary root is made up of periderm and secondary vascular bundle. With the growing of Astragalus the content of cell ergastic substance increases gradually, and the effective components accumulate widely in parenchyma cells.
