The effects of different municipal household garbage and sewage sludge on soil fertility properties and plant (Brassica campestris L and lawn grass) growth was studied with culture experiment and pot experiment. The results of culture experiment showed that all of the experimental municipal household garbage and sewage sludge had significant inhibition to seed germination of both Brassica oleracea and Brassica campestris. In the experiment of using household garbage as component of the growing medium of lawn grass, the household garbage also significantly inhibited the germination of lawn grass seeds. The inhibition of household garbage and sewage sludge on plant seed germination was transient phenomenon and its strength was positively correlated to the content of organic matter in household garbage and sewage sludge. Brassica campestris seed germination percentage in every treatment get to more than 97% when it's after 96 hours. It means that the inhibition of household garbage and sewage sludge on plant seed germination dues to some small molecular organic compounds, such as aldehydes, phenols, organic acids, and so on, which were produced in the decomposition process of organic matter and have poison effect on living things, but not to heavy metals or salt concentration. Household garbage as a component of growing medium significantly improved the growth of lawn grass and increased chlorophyll content and dry weight of lawn grass. It is better that the proportion of household garbage to soil is lower than one third. The results of pot experiment that all of the experimental municipal household garbage and sewage sludge increased soil organic matter, available N, P, K nutrients, microorganisms, and activity of CAT in varying degrees. Therefore, rational utilization of garbage and sludge can improve soil fertility. For example,in the treament used by sludge and garbage, bacterium increase by an average of 60.80%,fungus25.28%,actinomyces28.53%。The treatments with...
