China is one of the largest agricultural countries in the world with 0.7 billion tons of crop stalks being generated annually. However, the com stalks can not be utilized efficiently and environmentally. Anaerobic biogasification of com stalk was studied in this research.NaOH pretreatment was employed in order to improve anaerobic biodegradability and biogas yield of com stalk. NaOH amount added was 4%, 6%, 8% and 10% of dry matter of corn stalk. The untreated and NaOH-treated com stalks were then anaerobically digested at mesophilic temperature (35℃) in batch reactors. For each com stalk, four loading rates of 35, 50, 65 and 80g/L were used.As for the four groups of NaOH-treated corn stalks, the cumulative biogas production obtained the highest value at 8%, 10%, 6% and 8% for the four loading rates respectively. The growth rates for TS and VS reduction of NaOH-treated corn stalks achieved peak values at 8%, 6%, 10% and 8% respectively. The difference among values above for 6%, 8% and 10% are negligible, thus 6% is recommended as the best addition amount for NaOH pretreatment. The experimental results of NaOH-treated for the four loading rates...
