Whole shelled corn, coarsely cracked corn and deeply cracked corn in concentrate was given to determine the effects on mid-lactation Sannen goats'productive performance, the total tract apparent digestibilities of nutrients and serum biochemical traits, and on lambs'growth performance. The purpose of this study was to choose the best feeding way of corn to dairy goats. Trial 1: Effects of different particle sizes of corn on mid-lactation Sannen goats'productive performance, the total tract apparent digestibilities of nutrients and serum biochemical traits Six mid-lactation Sannen goats were used to find the effects of different particle sizes of corn on productive performance, nutrient digestibilities and serum biochemical traits. The trial was designed in a 2 repeat 3×3 Latin square and three trial groups had same diets except the particle sizes of corn. three particle sizes of corn, whole corn, coarsely cracked corn(average dia. 2.57mm) and deeply cracked corn (average dia. 0.85mm) , were fed randomly to the three groups in the trial. The results showed that for three trial goat groups, whole corn, coarsely cracked corn and deeply cracked corn, DMI were respectively 2.71, 2.70 and 2.70 kg/d(P>0.05); milk yield were respectively 3.39,3.31 and 3.34kg/d(P>0.05); Ratio of milk fat were respectively 3.07%,2.99% and 3.30%(P>0.05) ; Ratio of milk protein were respectively 2.42%,2.46% and 2.45%(P>0.05); Ratio of milk sugar were respectively 4.27%,4.26% and 4.27%(P>0.05); Contents of SNF were respectively 7.40%,7.49% and 7.39%(P>0.05); Dry matter of milk were respectively 10.77%,10.84% and 10.72%(P>0.05). And the contents of glucose and urea nitrogen in serum were respectively 1.46, 1.48, 1.50mmol/l (P>0.05)and 5.88, 5.83, 4.92mmol/(lP>0.05). All indicated that the treatments did not significantly affect diets intake, DMI, milk yield , composition percentages of milk, ratio of milk production to feedstuff, the total tract apparent digestibilities of DM, OM, energy, CP, NDF and ADF, the fecal moisture percentage, and the indices of blood(P>0.05). But it had the trend of reducing starch digestibilities(P=0.08). The trial shows that lactating goats can be feeded with whole corn or coarsely cracked corn instead of deeply processed corn. Trial 2: Effects of different particle sizes of corn on growth performance of lambs 24 45~60 day-old lambs of Sannen goats were used to study the effects on growth performance of whole corn, coarsely cracked corn and deeply cracked corn. Lambs were randomly divide into 8 groups which near in weight and three goats a group. Concentrate compositions of Each group were same and just corn were fed respectively whole corn, coarsely cracked corn and deeply cracked corn. The preliminary trial was 7 days and the formal trial last 40 days. The results showed that compared to deeply cracked corn, whole corn significantly decreased silage corn intake of lambs(P<0.05), and whole corn and coarsely cracked corn increased Concentrate intake(P<0.05). But the intake of alfalfa hay and total DMI had no significant effects(P>0.05). ADG and DMI/ADG of three groups, whole corn, coarsely cracked corn and deeply cracked corn, were respectively 82.34, 78.75, 74.38g/d and 4.31:1, 4.51:1, 4.44:1(P>0.05 ). Coarsely cracked corn could significantly increase body height and body length of lambs(P<0.05). The trial showed that whole corn and coarsely cracked corn had no significant effects on total DMI, ADG and DMI/ADG of lambs, while they significantly increase body indices. It is feasible to replace deeply cracked corn with whole corn and coarsely cracked corn.
