90 Kunming rats, being clinical healthy, were divided into five groups, 18 for each group. Group 1(normal control group), rats were given for 4 weeks with physiological saline 2ml/d by ip; group 2,rats were given for 4 weeks with EF (1ml/d, ip); group 3(model control group), rats were given for 4 weeks with normal saline 2ml/d, group 4 and 5,the experimental groups, were given EF 1,2ml/d by ip, continuously for 4 weeks. After 24 hours of the last administration, rats of group 1 and 2 were kept in regular temperature(18℃) and group 3 to 5 were exposed to -20℃for 40 minutes. Tissue and serum samples were taken after 1 hour, 10 hours and 20 hours of cold exposure. The SOD activity, MDA contents, GSH-Px activity, XOD activity, GPT activity, BUN and Scr contents were measured in rats. The results were as follow: Compared with the group of normal control, in group 2,the activity of SOD in tissues and serum were increased and the contents of MDA were decreased; the GSH-Px activity in cardiac muscle were increased; the contents of BUN and Scr and the levels of XOD and GPT in serum were fallen. the contents of BUN at 1 hours in serum, the contents of Scr at 20 hours and the contents of MDA at 10 hours and 20 hours in serum and the levels of XOD at 1 hours in serum were different from nomal control group(P<0.01).in group 3,the activity of SOD in cardiac muscle, except for 10 hours in liver, in renal and serum were decreased significantly(P<0.05 or P<0.01);the GSH-Px activity in cardiac muscle were decreased significantly(P<0.01); the contents of MDA except for 1 hours in liver, in renal, in cardiac muscle and serum were increased obviously(P<0.05 or P<0.01);the contents of BUN at 10 hours in serum , the contents of Scr in serum , the levels of XOD and GPT in serum were improved significantly(P<0.01).
