Adult mother plants of Idesia palycarpa Maxim were selected from the natural environment. After collecting their seeds, we sowed the seeds in order to obtain the seedlings. And then the biological characteristics of the Idesia palycarpa Maxim were observed. Furthermore, this study investigated the vegetative propagation of the Idesia palycarpa Maxim, including the hardwood cutting, the softwood cutting and the root cutting. At the same time, the adaptability in cultivation of Idesia palycarpa Maxim was experimented in different site conditions. Those results were as followed:The natural germination ratio of Idesia palycarpa Maxim was zero. In order to overcome the problem, many methods were attempted. The seed was treated by mechanical treatments, chemical treatments and the combination of mechanical and chemical treatments. The results showed that the sowing germination rate was different, respectively reaching to 17.8 %, 15.3%, 12.3%. The effect of mechanical treatments was optimal.The seedling of Idesia palycarpa Maxim had prosperous roots. And they grew very fast. The exponential growth of one-year-old seedlings was from the middle July to the middle September, accounting for 70% all the year. And the ground diameter exponential growth was from the middle August to the middle October, accounting for 70.7% of the year root diameter growth.The best rooting rate of hardwood cutting was 30%. These findings suggested that the adventitious root formation capacity of cuttings was related to the hormone kind, the hormone concentration, treatment time, the origin of the cutting. The best effect was the hormone concentration and the origin of the cutting; the best rooting rate of softwood cutting was 36.7%. The adventitious root formation capacity of cuttings was related to the hormone kind, the hormone concentration, treatment time, the origin of the cutting, the cutting time, the cutting media, the cutting depth, the length of cuttings, the diameter of cuttings and the incision of aspect. The best effect was the origin of the cutting and the cutting time.The rooting rate of root cutting of Idesia palycarpa Maxim was 80% above. The rooting rate of root embedding was 90%. The adventitious root formation capacity of cuttings was related to the seedling age, the diameter of cuttings, the length of cuttings, IBA treatment, treatment time, the cutting time, the polar cutting. The best effect was the polar cutting.Idesia palycarpa Maxim was adaptive to the acid, litmusless, alkalesent soil in the hill, flat land and plain. It was not adaptive to the salina and marsh. In the different site conditions, the average growth of Idesia palycarpa Maxim could reach to the standard of fast growing in the period experiment. The growth of Idesia palycarpa Maxim in the lower altitude regions was super to the higher altitude regions. And the growth of Idesia palycarpa Maxim in the fertile regions was better than the infertile regions. The bearing stage of the five-year-old seedlings was very long, from the first year to the next year of March.It was different to the yield per unit area of the one-year-old seedlings by different vegetative propagation methods. The results showed: the seedling of root cutting >the seedling of sowing > the seedling of cutting. And the net profit of the unit area production was different, too. The results were as followed: the seedlings of root cutting >the seedlings of sowing > the seedlings of cutting>the four- year-old transplanting seedlings.In addition, the article came up with some proposals of the utilization, exploration and studies of Idesia palycarpa Maxim.
