The trial was conducted at experiment farm of Pengshui county ,Wulong county and Shizhu county in Chongqing during 2002-2004 in order to cultivate high-quality, high-yield and excellent Festuca arundinacea seed, and find some effective high-yield painting techniques. In the trial, tall fescue {Festuca arundinacea Schreb.cv.Fawn) were studied the changes of seed yield, yield components and seed quality through taking advantage of different balance fertilization and cutting application. Simultaneously, seed quality test and evaluation were made in Lab. The trial could speed up the seed production of tall fescue, and overcome the conditions of Festuca arundinacea seed low yield and poor quality. The research may change the present conditions to a certain degree that seed of tall fescue dependent on importation, and produced high-quality, high-yield and excellent Festuca arundinacea seed, and found some effective high yield planting techniques. It can provide a useful reference to the study and application of Festuca arundinacea's seed production further. The result shows:(1) In the three trial sites such as Pengshui, Shizhu and Wulong, the climate factors including light, temperature and water et.al. can satisfy the need of Festuca arundinacea seed production. The seed yield are 646.1kg/hm2, 640.4kg/hm2, 632.9kg/hm2 respectively. The altitude from 800m to 1200m is good for the seed production. It is the best site to produce seed in Pengshui at the altitude of 800m.(2) The fertilization level have significant effect on seed yield and component factors. Based on pure P2O5 at 60kg/hm2 and pure K7O at 45kg/hm2, the seed yield and the component factors of yield except for 1000-grain weight increase with nitrogen. At the middle nitrogen level of 90kg/hm2. All are the highest including seed yield, tillers,fertilie tiler, spkilets/fertilie tiler , florets/spkilet , seeds/spkilet. Seed yield is 648.7kg/hm2, 659.1kg/hm2, 637.9kg/hm2 respectively. At the high nitrogen level of 120kg/hm2, seed yield and component factors decrease. In Pengshui, seed yield at middle nitrogen level is higer than high nitrogen level. The result is opposite to that in Shizhu and Wulong. But no rule can be found for the 1000-grain weight.(3) Producing Festuca arundinacea's seed at Pengshui, Shizhu and Wulong, Cutting can increase tillers and stimulate growth to a certain extent . Through cutting, seed yield increased by 57.1kg/hm at Pengshui and by 15.3kg/hm at Shizhu and by 35.1kg/hm at Wulong. Compared to the three places, seed yield at Pengshui was highest, it increased by 6.8% and 3.6%.(4) In the three trial sites, the germination energy are 76.3%, 77.0% and 77.4%, and the germination rate are 87.65%, 88.4% and 87.9% respectively. The diversity is not significant. So fertilization and cutting level have no obvious effect on seed quality.
