Since 1949, China water conservancy construction has gotten great achievement, many flood control, irrigation, surface drainage, subsurface waterlogging control, hydropower and other hydraulic engineering have been built. These projects need many modernization management theories and advanced technologies to achieve water project management automation, improve the level of management, and do great contribution for the development of social economy. This paper researched and analyzed the state of art and method of application of modern communication technique, hydroregime auto-measure and report technique, supervisory control and data acquisition of sluice group, security monitoring technique of hydraulic structure and other techniques. For studying irrigation canal headwork auto-management technology, author researched the application of automation management system in the Da-ao canal headwork in Liu-xi river irrigation district, Guangzhou city. Author carried out multiple-objective monitoring to Da-ao canal headwork by auto-water gaging technique, sluice auto-control technique, dam security monitoring technique, power station monitoring technique and video cipher monitoring technique etc, moreover, author efficiently combine monitoring data mentioned above with former water quality monitoring system, three control telemetry system to achieve data network and multiple-objective. Author also researched canal headwork automation system comprehensive utilization. At present, system function is fine, the effect is obvious and system capability is stable. By now, the system has finished auto-dispatch water, auto-control flood and table-report daily. The monitoring system has run formally, and serves daily management and production of pivot project.
