| Welsh onion (Allium fistulosum L.) belongs to Lily family, Allium genus, and is biennial plants. In recent years, with development of vegetables exports, Welsh onion exports increased year after year. China introduced a lot of Welsh onion varieties from Japan to ensure the export needs. But since different varieties had different adaptability, farmer often chose inappropriate varieties and made a loss in production, especially in wintering cultibation, Welsh onions always encountered low-temperature stress or induced bolting in early spring, which restricted the yield and quality gravely. Therefore, this experiment did some researches about comparison and evaluation on the major characteristics of Welsh onion varieties, which introduced from Japan, and on this basis, studied their effect in wintering cultivation. Its main findings are as follows:1. Through observation and investigation on 20 Welsh onions which introduced from Japan, this experiment screened out several Welsh onion varieties which had better quality, such as Changbao, Chunwei, Gaoguan, Tianxi, Yuanzang, and so on. The commercial characters of these varieties were better, fertility character were better, erective character were beeter, and their stem rigidity were tighter, growth were stronger, hot-tolerance and cold- tolerance were better, so they could be generalized. |
